Third Reich
‘Lest We Forget’ is dedicated to my inspirational great friend and Auschwitz survivor, Martin Bennett 1925 -2016. The photographs illustrate the darkest chapter in Europe’s recent history – the Holocaust. From the private collection of Andy Jones, representing not only the atrocities committed in Nazi Germany during WWII, but also a glimpse into the psyche of the men and women behind it, foremost the infamous and brutal SS. Barbed wire, electricity isolators and a syringe set from the Auschwitz concentration camp. POW clothes, a cyanide capsule given to members of the SS alongside ceremonial daggers and a wedding gift copy of Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’. Himmler’s signature and transportation stamps from Dachau and Stutthof. Hitler’s 1933 Christmas portrait from his desk and his monogrammed cutlery. “The only thing we learn from history is that we never learn from history.” – Georg Hegel, German philosopher. 1770-1831
