The Kray Twins

This project was shot to record the memorabilia of the Kray twins, English gangsters who were foremost perpetrators of organized crime in London’s East End during the 1950s & ’60s. They were arrested on 9 May 1968 and convicted for murder in 1969 by the efforts of a squad of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard “Nipper” Read, and were both sentenced to Life imprisonment. Ronnie died in 1995, and Reggie in 2000.

The shots are of memorabilia, from the private collection of Andy Jones and show objects from their life of crime and prison. Reggie’s bayonet, knife and his artist’s paint set. Ronnie’s cigarette case, comb, sawn off shotgun and his infamous glasses. Also in a letter from their mother to a friend discussing her sons she mentions that they ‘are the most understanding and kindest of people one could meet they have never hurt anyone.’ Also including the Blind Beggar Public House, court one of the Old Bailey and Bow Street Magistrates Court where they both appeared.

Available as Giclée Fine Art prints, limited edition of 9.
